Community Love-in
UPDATE TO COMMUNITY LOVE-IN POST:
We are excited to announce THREE new collaborators for the event on Saturday! Weather forecast is sunny and chilly, so stay warm by keeping those creative juices flowing! Bundle up, bring your friends and neighbors and share the LOVE!
All members of the Charleston community, from children to seniors, are invited to join the Charleston Self-Portrait Project in making self-portraits using minimally messy materials, such as pastels, colored pencils, art markers, charcoal pencils, and drawing pencils. Each participant can choose to keep his or her self-portrait or donate it to the Charleston Self-Portrait Project Collection for future viewing by the community. By collecting self-made images of community members, the project will create a “portrait of Charleston” that will be shared with the public in March 2015. All ages welcome!
Just Dance + One Billion Rising::
Join us to DANCE with your community and in connection with fellow movers and shakers across the globe for One Billion Rising to raise awareness + end violence against women. All ages are welcome - no dance experience necessary. Stay warm by moving with your friends and neighbors!
We’ll have paint for the community mural, so when we heard we had a neighbor in need, we figured we’d share the love! CW+F office is just across the street from Revelry Brewing Co. so we will help the festival by painting one of their “X”s for the set-up in Marion Square! Don’t miss a chance to get your artwork all over this town!
Webster defines “community” as “1. a group of people who live in the same area (such as a city, town or neighborhood), 2. a group of people who have the same interests, religion, race, etc. 3. a group of nations”. I think most of us embrace the concept of community with the knowledge that the things that make us different can actually bring us closer together. Most of us are here because we love it here. And when I say here I mean the community of the upper peninsula - NoMo, Eastside, East Central, Northside, North Central, the Neck, Wagner Terrace… From whatever you part hail and whatever part you play - business, resident, student, visitor - we all combine together to create a pretty unique community in Charleston. Let’s celebrate that!
Join us on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at Revelry Brewing Company for a Community Love-in! Nothing fancy, no ticket needed, just a free event to visit with your neighbors and friends. There will be music by King Sing, Smoke food truck, brews lovingly crafted by the guys at Revelry. And since it is Valentine’s Day, we will also be making old fashioned Valentines to share - make one for someone you love or something you love about your community. But the fun doesn’t end there, Revelry has also turned over one outside wall for a community mural. So come and make your mark and share the creative love. We’ve got a plan for the mural and it’s gonna take a lot of artists, young and old — no paint brushes needed — we’ll just say this is an interactive mural! Come see for yourself (and don’t be afraid to get a little messy).
Additionally this is a very casual, open call for artists and muralists to come and check out the site. Revelry has additional areas they would like to see activated by more murals. We invite all interested artists to come by on Saturday, check out the space, and share your ideas. A portion of every beer sold will go towards the artists mural! Nothing beats drinking a delicious beer and knowing you did something good for your community at the same time!
Join the LOVE. Saturday, February 14th 2pm-5pm. FREE and open to the public. Bring money for beers and food truck. FREE snacks for kids!
Pictures from the Love-in below! Thanks, everyone, for a great Saturday!
