Letter from the Executive Director, Chris Burgess:
It is an exciting time for Enough Pie! This phrase is one I find myself saying almost everyday to just about anyone I encounter. We are so lucky to be a part of the upper peninsula fabric and are working hard to use arts-based community engagement in all of our programmatic efforts as well as our outreach initiatives. Through each of Enough Pie’s programs, we work to build lasting relationships by aiming to serve community interests as defined by the community itself. As this report will illustrate, our reach has grown significantly from last year and continues to do so as we steadily move forward into the years to come. There is so much to be accomplished and we feel blessed to interact with such an amazing group of community members on a daily basis. That has been the best part of our work so far for me, and I have met so many wonderful people from all walks of life who care deeply about the community in which they live and work. They are the inspiration and catalyst for everything that we do.
Programmatically, it was an amazingly busy year. We kicked things off in July with Awakening which saw over 1000 attendees and truly amazing art across multiple disciplines and mediums; we launched the Community Projects Grants initiative with the help of a Lowcountry Quarterly Arts Grant and funded our first recipients; we began what will be a steady series of popups in the park and worked with neighbors to program with their interests in mind; we collaborated with other community organizations and advocates on arts projects as well as neighborhood meetups; and we closed out the year with the site-specific outdoor installation Fieldwork which showcased the incredible creativity of artists in this area. And these are just the highlights! Our outreach efforts continue on a daily basis and we hope to deepen these relationships even more over the next year.
None of this could have been accomplished without the amazing generosity of our incredible donors as well as the hard work of our Board of Directors, community partners, artists, and volunteers. Thank you all for everything that you do. We simply would not be where we are without you.
We believe in the upper peninsula. We believe in the arts. We believe in the transformative power of creativity in all of its forms. And we believe in you. These beliefs shape who we are and everything that we do as an organization. Thank you for making this year so special. There’s so much more to come!
