UP-Start: Funding High-Impact, Low-Cost Creative Projects
Ever dream about how to improve your neighborhood? Charleston’s Upper Peninsula is 836 acres of neighbors, businesses, churches, cemeteries, and big roads like Upper Meeting and King. Simply connecting can be a challenge in this part of the neck, and at Enough Pie, we seek to connect creatively.
That is why Enough Pie created UP-Start (previously Community Project Grants), ongoing funding and support for implementing creative ideas in the Upper Peninsula. So far, Enough Pie has funded six projects, including a mosaic hopscotch for the Romney Street Urban Garden (pictured above).
In addition to its new name, UP-Start will have rolling deadlines for applicants so artists and creative citizens can submit their project idea anytime during the year for funding opportunities. Awards for high-impact, low-cost projects in the Upper Peninsula with arts and culture at the core range from $200-$1,200 according to the size, scope and impact of the project.
If accepted, applicants will complete an interview process to further clarify the details of the project. Enough Pie encourages artists to approach UP-Start from a broad perspective – get creative and think outside the box – and consider the lasting impact on the Upper Peninsula. In the past, the best projects have come from within the community for the community.
UP-Start funding is limited to individuals only (no organizations please), but all ages are welcome to apply. There is no application fee. Enough Pie will act as co-partner with the individual grantee to help facilitate project execution and implementation such as partnership opportunities,, administration and promotional efforts. Please contact grants@enoughpie.org with questions.
